Since 1994 Martha Bernstein has been providing Jewish Education to schools in Jersey. This started when her own children were young, and she wanted to make sure that other children in their schools began to understand the reasons for them not going to school on Rosh Hashanah and all other festivals – her sons were the only Jewish children in their school at that time.
Now Martha sees nearly all the 26 Primary Schools on the island including doing sessions for Shabbat, understanding the Holocaust and also providing visits to the Synagogue. She also sees most of the 7 secondary schools at some point each year.
Visits are arranged for all ages of the Scout Movement. In addition Martha has seen many local branches of the WI and last year the Jersey Deaf Society – they brought someone to assist with signing and there were also two service dogs in attendance!
